Today we learned about Wild by Cheryl Strayed and her hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. We heard her story and saw some about what she had in her bag for the hike, then heard her read and explain some parts of her book.
After this we got in pairs and decided on a place that you could do a ten to fifteen day hike at. We chose the North Country Trail, and during early summer. After this we started thinking about what we would need to bring with us for the trip and made a list about it. We got a list of things that someone brought with them to hike the Appalachian Trail and used this to figure out how much our pack would weigh, ours weighing 24.25 pounds. We added that much weight to a bag and then walked with it on to get a feel about what it would be like. Personally I didn't think it was very much because if the bag is put on right you don't feel any weight on your shoulders, and I have worn backpacking bags before.
We ended the day watching the movie Never Cry Wolf which is a about a researcher living in alaska for six months to find if wolves are the cause of a decrease in caribou population. He also says he wants to rediscover himself and tries to while he is there.
