Today we read some poems about people describing how to make a part of nature and learned how to make our own. We had to make ours about a body of water and i decided a river to write about.
To Make a River
Take trees, grass, bugs, and some animals.
Put them in a bowl and mix with some wind until the birds make homes on trees.
Pour onto some dirt and spread it evenly.
Cook in the sun at 85 degrees until everything is warmed.
Let stand until the bugs and animals settle.
Add some water in one spot waiting for it to flow.
Cut and serve with kayaks and people.
After writing our poems we listened to a TED talk about listening and how we have lost a lot of our ability to listen well. The speaker discussed some ways we can listen, one of them being to listen and try to focus in on one sound to see how long we were able to. Later in the morning we went kayaking down the Little Miami River for 5.2 miles and during the time we tried listening more intentionally. I realized how many sounds there are in nature. There's more than just the river, people around us, and birds. If you pay attention the wind can still be heard and some other animals that are further away too.
